If you follow the life of our congregation you may have already heard that our annual Cake-Off and Ice Cream Social Fundraiser was a tremendous success. Each year, as Summer draws to a close, our community gathers in support of a non-profit ministry that has it’s origins at SHCC. The Robert V. and Benjamin G. Miller Fund was founded to provide camping experiences for adults with disabilities. I’ve had the privilege of serving on their advisory board, and on behalf of the Fund, I want to thank everyone who joined us this year for your continued support.
I need to mention two additional ministries who have a special connection both to the Robert and Ben Miller Fund and to SHCC. Debbie Kizer (right), Executive Director of Imagine Art, and Debbie Webb (left), Executive Director of PLANCTX were on hand to tell us about the good work they are currently doing in our community on behalf of adults with disabilities. Both of these organizations sponsored camps at Disciple Oaks Retreat Center in May of this year. PLANCTX is in the process of planning an additional camp which will take place at our denominational camp site from October 11th-14th. I encourage you to visit the websites of these ministries and consider supporting them through prayer and donations. If you are interested in volunteering at the camp in October feel free to contact us at the church (firstname.lastname@example.org).
